Belly Lovin’ BBQ Meatballs

Your weekend BBQs will never be the same once you’ve had a taste of these healthy, belly lovin’ BBQ meatballs. Your friends and family will be pleasantly surprised (and completely obsessed) by these natural wonders. Rest assured that they’ll probably be too busy snapping up this treat to bother asking what’s in them, but you’ll know the happy truth.

Most people opt for frozen or prepared, store-bought meatballs and sauces for ease and convenience. However, store bought BBQ sauce is less than desirable, full of high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavors, food coloring, and who knows what else. Did you know that a couple of tablespoons of a store bought BBQ sauce brand is likely to have upwards of 16 grams of sugar? That’s roughly the same amount you would find in one half of a candy bar! And let’s face it, two tablespoons is not much sauce, so it’s safe to assume that many people are splashing on the equivalent of a candy-bar amount of sauce on their meatballs. Sugar-spike central!

And don’t even get me started on the meat. Pre-packaged meatballs are often composed of the less-than-desireable mystery meats; a hodge-podge of beef and pork. You never really know what you’re getting.

But, no need to worry…there is a way better way to have BBQ meatballs without sacrificing the taste. These babies are fresh, healthy, and pack quite a flavor punch. Rich in nutrients, the ingredients list is small, but powerful. And did I mention that this recipe is crazy easy to make? Dinner will be ready before you know it, and these little balls of heaven are good in or out of spaghetti sauce. Leave the sugar for dessert, kick mystery meat to the curb, and feast on Belly Lovin’ BBQ Meatballs in all their glory. Finger-lickin’ good!

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, onions, egg, almond flour, chili powder, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir until everything is well-mixed.
  3. Roll the beef mixture into bite-size balls and set aside.
  4. Heat some coconut oil in a skillet placed over a medium heat and brown the meatballs for 4 to 5 minutes on each side; then place them in a baking dish.
  5. Combine the sauce ingredients in a bowl, stir, and season to taste.
  6. Pour BBQ sauce over the meatballs and bake in the oven for 40 to 45 minutes.

    If you wanted to make this healthy, you should've included a recipe for the SAUCE, too. You're just drowning healthier meatballs with sugar (or rather, HFCS) laden sauce. No thank you - I'll stick to my own ITALIAN meatballs. Not everyone likes BBQ sauce - I can't stand it. I hope your other recipes are better - I just signed up.
